Both he and his wife tested for HIV, were found positive and sent to MSF's chronic diseases clinic in Siem Reap. Thanks to having faithfully adhered to his treatment, Koeut Chrel is now able to work. He and his wife sell books in Siem Reap town. The couple has three children. Two of them have tested negative for HIV, the youngest has yet to be tested.
