Matias Costa was born in Buenos Aires and now lives and works in Spain. He studied journalism at the Complutense University of Madrid. His work explores the question of ‘belonging’ and looks at the feeling of being a stranger when confronted with the notions of territory and identity. He received two World Press Photo awards, a Discovery Prize at PhotoEspaña and an Honorable Mention at the RM Photobook award.
Matias participated in the Joop Swart Masterclass and has exhibited his work all over the world in places like the Museo Reina Sofia, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama and at the Festival Images in Vevey. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museo de América in Madrid, Hubei Museum of Art in China and The Moscow House of Photography. He has published a number of books including Zonians (La Fábrica, 2015), Photobolsillo (La Fábrica, 2014) and The Family Project (Lens, 2012).
