Alessandro Cinque is one of 12 photographers shortlisted for the prestigious annual Prix Pictet, a CHF 100,000 award for a single photographer producing a compelling body of work on a changing theme.
His submission, entitled ‘Peru, a Toxic State’, looks at the stark contrast between the opulence of the country’s mining industry (it is the second biggest producer of copper and silver and a big exporter of gold) and the abject poverty of indigenous communities living in the mining regions.
