During lockdowns over the past year Jenny Matthews created a series of patchworks which incorporate her work over the past twenty years as a documentary photographer concerned with the effects of war on women’s lives globally.
She edited photos from her archive and printed them onto A4 sheets of linen that she then sewed together to make a series of patchworks, backed onto different textiles that she bought in those countries. Each patchwork is a visual statement of women challenging attempts to control their lives during and after conflict.
This intriguing project is now being exhibited at Format Festival which this year, because of the pandemic, is being held virtually.
You can visit “Room 12” at the Festival by clicking here and navigating around the room. Jenny’s work is on the back of on of the panels arranged around the “room”.
