All of us at Panos Pictures are deeply saddened to hear that our
photographer Tim Hetherington was killed on Wednesday, 20 April 2011 in an RPG attack in Misratra, Libya. Chris Hondros, a photographer with Getty Images, was also killed in the same attack.

Guy Martin, a close friend of Panos Pictures, was also severely
injured in the attack and Michael Christopher Brown suffered minor injuries. We are praying that both will make a full recovery and rejoin their families soon.

Tim will be dearly missed as an irreplaceable friend and contributor to our agency since the earliest days. He combined a fierce intelligence with a deeply creative approach to photography and filmmaking that marked him apart from his peers.

He knew what path he wanted to follow, his work was direct and purposeful and stood as an example to many of his proteges.

We are still trying to come to terms with how someone so full of life could be stopped so cruelly in his tracks. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
