River of Tea is a new exhibition by Panos photographer Tim Smith, exploring how the early tea trade sparked the migration of people from Bangladesh to Britain. The exhibition will be on from 19 May until 27 June 2021.
More than 500,000 British-Bangladeshis now live in Britain, with over 90% from the region around Sylhet, a district in northern Bangladesh that was once part of Assam, the first tea-growing region in British India.
