Jonas Kakó studied photojournalism and documentary photography at the University of Hannover in Germany. Over the past years he has focused his work around the effects of the climate crisis.
Through a number of projects, including “Dying River” which was awarded a World Press Photo award in 2023, Jonas tries to show how this most pressing issue of our time is impacting on the lives of people who are suffering the consequences of global warming and whose very existence is threatened by it.
Jonas has been working for the Weser-Kurier in Bremen since 2016 as well as on assignments for national and international magazines. His freelance work has appeared in National Geographic, Stern, Vice, de Volkskrant and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, among many others.
He is based in Hannover, Germany.
